Spain packing list for families

A family trip to Spain often strings together Barcelona, Madrid, and the south by train, with very different weather and late Spanish evenings along the way. Packing for heat, walking, and a few dressier church visits keeps everyone comfortable.

Kristina's notes on Spain

  1. High-speed trains connect Madrid with Barcelona, Seville, and Málaga in a few hours, and bags go through a quick security scan at the station. I arrive about 30 minutes early and pack so everyone can lift their own suitcase onto the rack.
  2. Spain runs late. Dinner often starts at 9 or later, and some shops close in the afternoon. With kids I lean into it: a pool or rest break after lunch, then out again in the evening when the plazas fill with families.
  3. Book the Alhambra and Sagrada Família well ahead, since popular time slots sell out. Both expect respectful dress, so I avoid tank tops and very short shorts on those days, and I plan Seville and Córdoba for spring or fall because summer there is extremely hot.
