Utah national parks packing list for families

Utah's Mighty 5 road trip covers desert heat, high-elevation chill, and river hikes, sometimes all in one week. Packing right means planning for each park's climate, not just one forecast.

Kristina's notes on Utah National Parks

  1. Each park has its own climate. Bryce sits around 8,000 to 9,000 feet and can be 20 degrees cooler than Zion on the same day, so pack layers for both.
  2. Check reservation rules before you go. Angels Landing requires a permit by lottery, and Arches has used timed-entry tickets in busy months in recent years.
  3. If you're hiking the Narrows in Zion, plan to rent canyoneering shoes and a walking stick in Springdale. Check flash flood forecasts the morning of, especially in late summer.
