Cape Cod packing list for families

Cape Cod summers mix warm sand with chilly ocean water and breezy evenings, so a good bag has fleece next to the swimsuits. Here is what our family packs for the bay, the beaches, and the boats.

Kristina's notes on Cape Cod

  1. For little kids, I steer families to the bay side. The water is calmer and warmer, and at low tide the flats stretch out for a long way, perfect for crabs and tide pools.
  2. Ocean beaches on the Outer Cape are colder, with strong surf, and seals and sharks are part of the landscape. Read the posted signs and swim near lifeguards.
  3. Saturday is changeover day for most rentals, and bridge traffic can back up for hours. A midweek arrival saves a lot of car time with kids.
