Mykonos packing list for families

Mykonos with kids is more about sandy south-coast beaches and whitewashed lanes than nightlife. The wind is the thing most families don't expect, and it shapes what you pack.

Kristina's notes on Mykonos

  1. Mykonos has a party reputation, but the south coast has calm, sandy, family-friendly beaches. I steer families to the quieter bays and away from the big beach clubs in the afternoon.
  2. The island is famously windy, especially in July and August. North-facing beaches can be rough, so I check the wind each morning and pick a sheltered beach, and I pack a warm layer for evenings by the water.
  3. Do the Delos day trip in the morning. The site is open, shadeless, and hot, and the boat may not run in strong winds, so I keep a backup day and bring hats, water, and real shoes for the uneven stones.
