Bay of Kotor packing list for families

The Bay of Kotor is all steep stone steps, pebble beaches, and boat rides between old towns. Packing for heat, stairs, and rocky swims keeps the whole family comfortable.

Kristina's notes on Montenegro: Bay of Kotor

  1. Kotor's old town fills up on days when large cruise ships are in port. I check the cruise schedule and save the old town for early mornings or evenings on busy days.
  2. The climb up to the fortress above Kotor is well over a thousand steps with little shade. Go at sunrise with water and grippy shoes, and turn around partway if little legs are done.
  3. Most beaches in the bay are pebbles or concrete swim platforms. A short boat ride to Perast and Our Lady of the Rocks is my favorite way to see the bay with kids.
