Lake Geneva and Montreux packing list for families

Lake Geneva links Montreux, Lausanne, and Chillon Castle by boat and train, with mountains always in view. Packing light layers and a good day bag is what makes it easy with kids.

Kristina's notes on Lake Geneva & Montreux

  1. The lake steamers are the best way to see this area with kids. We pair Montreux with Chillon Castle by boat, and I pack a light jacket even in summer because the open deck gets breezy.
  2. Swiss trains are easy and very family friendly. I look into a Swiss Travel Pass or the Swiss Family Card, which lets kids under 16 ride free with a parent, and plan days around the lake by train and boat.
  3. Many shops close early on Saturdays and most stay closed on Sundays. I pick up snacks and essentials on Friday or Saturday morning so we are not hunting on a quiet Sunday.
