Fiji packing list for families

Fiji is one of the most family-friendly island trips there is, with a few local customs worth packing for. Village visits, small-plane transfers, and reef snorkeling all shape what goes in the bag.

Kristina's notes on Fiji

  1. If you visit a village, cover shoulders and knees and take hats off. A sarong (sulu) in the beach bag works, and guests usually bring kava as a gift for the welcome ceremony.
  2. Many island resorts are reached by boat or small plane from Nadi, and seaplanes often have strict luggage limits. Pack soft bags and check the weight allowance before you go.
  3. The flight from Los Angeles is overnight and around 11 hours, landing early in the morning. Ask about early check-in or plan a slow first day by the pool.
