Exumas and Harbour Island packing list for families

The Out Islands of the Bahamas are all about boats, sandbars, and small planes, so packing light and waterproof makes everything easier. Here is what our family brings for Exumas boat days and Harbour Island golf cart afternoons.

Kristina's notes on Bahamas: Exumas & Harbour Island

  1. Most of the Exumas magic happens on a boat day: sandbars, the swimming pigs, and the cays in between. Pack each child a dry bag with a change of clothes, a towel, and sunscreen, because the spray reaches everyone.
  2. Getting to Harbour Island means flying into North Eleuthera and taking a short water taxi, then getting around by golf cart. Soft bags are much easier to hand down onto a boat than big hard-shell suitcases.
  3. Winter can surprise people. A cold front in January or February can make evenings and boat rides breezy, so I pack a light sweater or windbreaker for each kid.
