Bonaire packing list for families

Bonaire is all about the water, with reefs you can reach right from the shore. Here is what our family packs to make snorkeling easy and comfortable for every age.

Kristina's notes on Bonaire

  1. Bonaire's reef starts just steps from shore, so you can snorkel from almost anywhere. Most entries are rocky, though, and water shoes or snorkel booties are a must for everyone.
  2. Visitors who swim, snorkel, or dive pay a nature fee that supports the marine park, and the island asks visitors to use reef-safe sunscreen. Pack mineral sunscreen and pay the fee online before you go.
  3. Bonaire is quieter than Aruba or Curaçao, with fewer sandy beaches and big resorts. It is perfect for families who love the water, and I tell parents to plan days around snorkeling, the flamingos, and Lac Bay.
