Banff and Lake Louise packing list for families

Banff summers are bright and beautiful, but mountain weather changes fast and mornings run cold. Here's what to pack for lake days, gondola rides, and family hikes in the Canadian Rockies.

Kristina's notes on Banff & Lake Louise

  1. Even in July, mornings by the lakes can be in the 40s. A packable down jacket and a warm hat earn their space in the suitcase.
  2. Moraine Lake is reached by shuttle or tour, not your own car, and Lake Louise parking fills very early. Book Parks Canada shuttle seats as soon as they open.
  3. Bring bear spray on trails, but buy it in Banff since you can't fly with it. Practice the safety talk with your kids before your first hike.
