San Miguel de Allende packing list for families

San Miguel de Allende is a hilly, cobblestone town at high altitude, with cool mornings and sunny afternoons. The right shoes and a few warm layers make it an easy, charming family trip.

Kristina's notes on San Miguel de Allende

  1. The streets are steep and almost entirely cobblestone, so a stroller is more trouble than help. I bring a carrier for little ones and sneakers with good grip for everyone else.
  2. At about 6,200 feet, winter mornings can be close to freezing while afternoons feel warm. Pack a cozy layer for breakfast on the terrace and lighter clothes for the day.
  3. A soak at one of the nearby hot spring pools is a great kid break between strolls through town. Bring swimsuits, since the city itself is all walking.
