Oaxaca packing list for families
Oaxaca pairs a walkable colonial city with ruins, markets, and day trips into the valleys. Packing for altitude, strong sun, and uneven streets keeps the whole family comfortable.

Kristina's notes on Oaxaca
- Oaxaca City sits around 5,000 feet, so mornings are cool and the midday sun is strong. Pack a light jacket and sun hats, especially for Monte Albán, where there is very little shade.
- The historic center is walkable but full of uneven sidewalks and cobblestones. I bring a carrier for little ones and shoes with good grip for everyone.
- Day of the Dead and the Guelaguetza in July are magical, but hotels fill early. If you want those dates, I recommend booking many months ahead.
