Kerala packing list for families

Kerala moves from humid backwaters to cool tea hills to warm beaches, often in one trip. Packing breathable, modest clothes plus a light layer is what makes it work for families.

Kristina's notes on Kerala, India

  1. US citizens need an Indian visa, and the e-visa works well for tourism. Each child needs their own, so I apply on the official site well ahead and double-check that photos meet the rules.
  2. I like a loop of Kochi, a night or two on a backwaters houseboat, the cool tea hills of Munnar, and a beach to finish. The drive up to Munnar is winding, so I pack motion sickness remedies.
  3. Temples and churches expect modest dress, and some temples are closed to non-Hindus. Loose, long cotton or linen works for both the heat and respect, and it keeps mosquitoes off at dusk.
