Hoi An and Central Vietnam packing list for families

Hoi An mixes lantern-lit lanes, rice-field bike rides, and beach days, all in serious heat and humidity. Packing light, modest clothes and good rain gear covers almost everything.

Kristina's notes on Hoi An & Central Vietnam

  1. US citizens need a Vietnam e-visa, and each child needs their own. I apply on the official government site a few weeks out and print copies, since one typo can mean delays at the airport.
  2. Central Vietnam has its own weather. October and November bring heavy rain and sometimes flooding in the old town, so I steer families to February through July and plan hot summer days around the pool and beach.
  3. The tailors in Hoi An are fun with kids, but fittings take time. I go on the first day so there is room for a second or third fitting before we leave.
